Mac Pro requires the macOS to be installed on the original Apple storage (above). The Apple storage cannot be swapped due to the Apple T2 security chip. The Mac Pro has spare PCIe slots that can be utilized for up to 8x NVMe M.2 SSDs (up to 4x drives on one PCIe slot using a Quad NVMe M.2 Mount). The additional storage can be dedicated for storage or work - cache, footage, sessions, project files, etc. Drives can be partitioned independently, or in RAID 0 (performance) or RAID 1 (redundancy) upon request. For 3D Modeling or 4K video editing, we recommend a single NVMe SSD. For 6K or 8K video editing, we recommend a NVMe RAID0 with blazing read/write speeds.

Mac Pro does not have bays for traditional 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch drives. The Sonnet Fusion Flex J3i Mounting System adds three SATA drive bays - supporting any combination of 2.5-inch solid-state drives or 3.5-inch hard drives. Increase storage capacity by adding more drives inside your Mac Pro. Note: The Sonnet Fusion Flex J3i must be checked (added) to enable the drives to be selected.
